I think most of my matches were videotaped, but I'm not sure.
I wasn't sure if I was going to do this tourney cause I have a bad track record with these (arm break and serial squished) and I haven't trained with my team at all this year and not consistently since last summer, and I haven't competed since May 07. I've just been there for support, but every time I go I get the jitters.... so I threw in.
my first match was yet another David v. Goliath situation, I entered the mens open bc I wanted matches and it was looking like I'd have to go against my own girls in the womens' divisions. So Blue has her match and the size is about the same, so I assume they bracketed it fair. They call me up and I'm actually not nervous at all, I take the red corner and wait for my opponent, 80% of the guys were within 50lbs of me so I wasn't concerned. There's some confusion and a male heavyweight walks past me... then turns around and squares up. If this were new to me, I would probably have thought "fuck...". So I'm thinking flying armbar, it's worked before... don't get to far in and end it quick he looks inexperienced (which he was), but he latches on and I'm stuck to the ground. then he barrels into me and attempts a kimura (I'm extremeeellly flexible so it's hard to tap me this way) He was probably the least experienced, least technical person I have ever gone against. Alvis stopped it cause it looked like he was getting pissed and probably would try to rip my arm off. after the adrenaline wore off I felt my bruised ribs and cranked arm... congrats on squishing a female featherweight, dude.
Blue and I had two matches, which is kind of annoying bc it's hard to test your ability with someone you train with. I won matches by advantage and an armbar that I really hope was videotaped. I ended up getting 2nd and 3rd in Gi and No-Gi. This makes me even more eager for June, after I get all trained up I won't have to consider whether or not I'm prepared. at least I know I have at least some natural ability now, though I'm disappointed in my lack of confidence with shooting. it's going to take time to make my wrestling and jiu jitsu seamless, but I think it will really improve my ground game.
My team ended up winning it overall, our womens' team swept our division.
Pics and video are forthcoming...Imma go rehab some shit.
